Laura von Bertouch back with the Thunderbirds
After a year off and after announcing her retirement from the game, 27-year-old von Bertouch has accepted the challenge with the Thunderbirds.
Coach Jane Woodlands is “very happy” to have von Bertouch back in the side.
“She is an extraordinary world class player and to have her with the new ANZ-League Thunderbirds will increase our chances at taking out the Championship in 2009,” adds Woodlands.
A former State League player, Australian player and past Thunderbirds Captain, von Bertouch announced her retirement from all forms of the sport in November 2007.
“After having 12 months away from the game I now feel I can recommit to train and play netball at the standard I have set and expected of myself over my career,” says von Bertouch.
The time off has given von Bertouch the much needed opportunity to re-assess her priorities and re-discover where her passions lie, fortunately for the Adelaide Thunderbirds the desire to be back on the court was strong resulting in her retirement turning quickly into more of a well-earned rest.
Woodlands and von Bertouch are confident that she will return stronger and more focused than ever before and will provide the right mix with her speed and agility on the mid-court to fill the shoes of recent Thunderbirds retiree Alex Clarke.
