In the spotlight: Paula Griffin

With nine Test Caps to her name, Paula Griffin is one of three New Zealand Silver Ferns in the Haier Pulse squad. The Pulse need all her international experience to help them record their first win of the season.

With the addition of Jane Altschwager to the Pulse squad, Griffin has been playing mostly at Goal Attack, which has given her plenty of room to move up the court. So far she has received 71 Centre Passes, seventh for the entire competition. However, with this much ball coming from the mid-court, Griffin needs to improve on her 14 Goal Assists for the season.

Griffin’s goaling this season is solid but she does need to lift the bar. Currently Griffin has scored the most Pulse goals with 114 at a percentage of 81%. In the five games this season Griffin has scored 30, 26, 24, 19 and 15 for an average of 22.8 per game. However she really needs to be scoring over 30 goals per game at a percentage rate that is in the high 80% bracket to give her team the best chance of winning.

The next five weeks see the Pulse remain on home soil, including a bye. This is the time for Paula Griffin and the Haier Pulse to re-energise themselves and collectively unite as a team and push for that elusive first win of the season. There are plenty of supporters out there on both sides of the Tasman that are cheering for this to occur.
