Netball WA applauds the announcement by Premier Colin Barnett today to fund construction of a State Netball Centre.

Netball is the highest participation female sport in Western Australia with over 36,000 members and approximately 50,000 further participants across the state in schools and indoor sport centres.

This decision by the Barnett Government will help improve the performance of our athletes, while enhancing participation numbers amongst girls and women.

Netball WA recorded a 7% increase in participation last year alone, and with the announcement of funding for a new State Netball Centre, we expect this number to rise in future years.

Netball WA CEO Scott Henderson described the funding `as a significant investment into the future of our girls.`

`All young netballers will today thank the Premier of Western Australia. As the only State in Australia without a State Netball Centre previously, we are delighted with their decision to help improve our sport.`

The Centre will be used for many purposes including future State League games, West Coast Fever training, WAIS program training. Netball WA Academy, and grassroots programs to name a few.

Mr Henderson believes the decision will be a huge benefit for netball in the State.

`This centre will not only assist in the performance of our elite athletes, but inspire netballers from a grassroots level and allow them to play netball in a world class venue.`

`On behalf of all the women and children involved in netball in Western Australia, we would like to thank the Western Australian Government for their commitment today`.
