UPDATE TO PLAYER ELIGIBILITY RULE

21 July 2010

Organisers of the ANZ Championship today announced the outcome of a recent review of the competition’s Eligibility Rule in relation to ineligible athletes.

The review has been based on submissions provided by teams during the competition’s first three seasons, and informed by discussions with Netball Australia and Netball New Zealand High Performance personnel, and their respective Players Associations.

From season 2011, teams will have the opportunity to contract athletes within the following guidelines:

  • Teams may elect to contract one ‘citizen ineligible’ by right, and then apply for a second ‘overseas’ ineligible athlete; alternatively,
  • Teams may contract one ‘overseas’ ineligible athlete by right.

The same Eligibility Rule will apply to both Australian and New Zealand teams.
