Just one more sleep until the last ANZ Championship Grand Final, with fierce rivals The Coffee Club Queensland Firebirds and NSW Swifts in a rematch of last year’s thrilling game.
The coaches and captains from both teams met beside the Brisbane River this morning to face up to the media one last time.
Here are their last words before the blockbuster clash:
Roselee Jencke – The Coffee Club Queensland Firebirds Head Coach
“It will be four quarters of guts and determination. Both teams are really highly skilled, there are talented players all over the court. It’s great to see the best going against the best. It’s about being able to cope with that pressure and the right time. We know that if we play our best that we are hard to beat. It’s got to all come together, it’s got to gel right from the start. We’ll be looking for that right from the very first whistle tomorrow.”
Laura Getiz – The Coffee Club Queensland Firebirds Captain
“We know that our best game is going to be what it takes to win tomorrow. We know that the Swifts are playing for a hell of a lot as well. We know that when we come out tomorrow we have to understand that we have to have drive and determination like never before. We can easily say we want to be the best team in the competition, that we want to go back to back, but actions speak louder than words, we know that.”
Rob Wright – NSW Swifts Head Coach
“We’re a different side (compared to last year’s Grand Final). We have six players different, five of our starters are back but we have two new starters in the seven. For me, it’s all about us, more so than what happened 13 months ago. We have come a long way, but equally the Firebirds have come just as far. It’s going to be a great contest tomorrow. We showed what we are made of (last week) and we are ready for tomorrow’s game.”
Kimberlee Green – NSW Swifts Captain
“For us, we’ve really built this season. We learnt a lot from last season in particular and the likes of having the experience of Laura Langman in our team and a few other players really pushing for positions, I think the depth of our team has really held us in good stead for the Grand Final. Making us work each and every training session to be selected and be on that court.”
The Firebirds will host the Swifts in the 2016 ANZ Championship Grand Final at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Sunday July 31. The game will be broadcast live on Channel 10 (ONE in WA), Fox Sports Australia 3, Sky Sport NZ 1 and the Netball Live App.
